A Little About Animal Acupressure

Acupressure is a safe, non-invasive modality developed thousands of years ago as a vital aspect of the Asian medicine system. Acupressure uses the same system and points as acupuncture with one difference, acupressure uses finger or thumb placement rather than acupuncture needles. These points follow channels, known as meridians which are the same channels that are used in acupuncture. According to Asian medical philosophy, activation of these points with pressure can improve blood flow, release tension, and enhance or unblock life-force energy, known in China as “Qi”. This release allows energy to flow more freely through the channels, which promotes relaxation, healing and the restoration of proper function.

Acupressure, just like acupuncture, is part of a much larger healing system within Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It encompasses an extensive body of knowledge and skills that provide a lifetime of learning once the basic theories and practices are studied and learned.

As a Certified Small Animal Acupressure Practitioner (SAAP), I am continually studying and learning more so that I can best help my animal clients, and tailor the bodywork they receive in each session to best support them at that time.
