The Tellington Method for Equines combines bodywork, groundwork and ridden work in a force-free approach that is suitable for all breeds, riding disciplines (equine)/canine disciplines and experience levels. The approach is based on the understanding that behavior issues often have their root cause from pain, fear, fear of pain, soreness, or tension in the body. I frequently incorporate Tellington TTouch bodywork and Wand work in my sessions with all animals I work with based on their needs and what might best help them.
TTouch and the Tellington Method can overcome common issues, such as (not an exhaustive list):
- Body tension
- Cinchiness
- Stiffness
- High-headedness
- Touch sensitivity
- Spookiness
- Aggression
- Ear shyness
- Overall distrust
- Girthing and saddling issues
- Resistance to vet and farrier
- Leading difficulties
- Difficulty catching
- Biting and kicking
- Inconsistent performance
- Increases willingness to learn and the ability to perform
This very gentle, but powerful way of working with the body helps with neuro-musculuar and neuro-fascial integration as well as acts on the nervous system to balance the body physically, mentally, emotionally, and neurologically so that balance in these systems are regained and the individual can also experience more confidence, less reactivity, and more soundness. For those familiar with Vagal Nerve work in human bodywork, I would say this is very similar to that, as the focus is more on facilitating changes that can affect the body holistically through the nervous system.
As I continue to learn this modality, I look forward to including more of this technique as a part of my animal practice to help your pet/animal thrive.
